About the Club
Where are we and where do we sail?
- We are situated at the eastern end of
Kanahooka Road, Kanahooka, NSW, Australia.
- On Lake Illawarra, around 12km south
of Wollongong, which is about 1.5 hours drive from Sydney. The
lake has a shore line length of about 70km, and a maximum depth
of 3.3 metres. There is enough room to set a triangular course
with 1 nautical mile legs to any wind direction.
How do you get here?
- Driving south from Sydney, take the
Wollongong freeway (F6 or Princes Highway), and you will go down
the mountain (known as Mount Ousley). Follow the freeway (F6)
for another 15 kilometres, and you will drive through a cutting
(where the freeway has been cut through a smallish mountain),
and you're almost here. Take the Kanahooka Road Exit (which is
the second exit after the cutting), and turn left at the traffic
lights. Follow Kanahooka Road all the way to the end, and you
have made it.
- Driving north from Melbourne, take the
Hume Highway to the Picton Road Exit (Wollongong and Picton turn
off) 25km past the truck weighbridge at Marulan. This road
will take you south to the F6 freeway and Wollongong. Follow
this down the mountain. Follow the freeway (F6) for another 15
kilometres, to the Kanahooka Road Exit. Take the Kanahooka Road
Exit (which is the second exit after the cutting), and turn left
at the traffic lights. Follow Kanahooka Road all the way to the
end, and you have made it.
What classes of boat sail at our club?
When do we sail?
- We sail on Saturdays from the early
October to early May.
